Hold on to your hats, folks! The political landscape in Rivers State is heating up, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) is stepping in to prevent what they see as a potential crisis. The core issue? The State House of Assembly's move to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy.
According to reports, the Assembly initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara on Thursday due to alleged misconduct. The next step? An impeachment notice is slated to be issued to both the governor and his deputy within the next seven days.
But here's where it gets controversial... The Rivers State chapter of the APC has issued a firm rejection of the impeachment process. In a statement released by Publicity Secretary Darlington Nwauju, the party made its stance crystal clear: "We solemnly reject the resort to an impeachment process against our governor and his deputy."
The APC's concern goes beyond just the current situation. They are worried about the potential for internal conflicts to spill over and destabilize the government. Darlington explained that the party cannot remain silent when issues from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) are threatening to resurface within their ranks.
The APC is taking a strong stance, vowing to do everything in their power to prevent the destabilization of the Rivers State government, which they consider to be an APC government.
What do you think about the APC's intervention? Do you agree with their position, or do you believe the impeachment process should proceed? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
