A double arrest in Ashanti: Police intercept two alleged robbers who allegedly killed a 28-year-old woman during a robbery in Asokore Mampong, near Kumasi.
The victim, Silver Ngozi, reportedly died after being robbed and stabbed with a knife in the Asokore Mampong area of the Ashanti Region.
The suspects are Farouk Iddris, 20, a motorbike mechanic and rider, and Salim Mohammed, 19, also a motorbike mechanic who also works as a rickshaw rider.
During a press briefing, Ashanti Regional Police Commander Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Arthur Osei Akoto said early investigations indicated the pair robbed the woman and that one of them allegedly stabbed her with a knife, causing her death.
Following intelligence-led actions, on December 12, 2025, at around 9:00 p.m., a joint team from the regional police headquarters and the Kumasi anti-robbery unit located and detained the suspects at their hideout in Aboabo, Kumasi.
A search of Farouk Iddris’s room yielded a machete, knives, and other potential weapons. Police reports indicate the suspects confessed to the robbery during questioning. Salim Mohammed, who was the pillion rider on the day of the incident, identified the knife with a zigzag edge as the weapon used to stab the deceased.
The suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue and are expected to be arraigned in court. In the same case, an iPhone 11 Pro belonging to the victim, stolen during the robbery, has been recovered and retained as evidence.
In a related development, further intelligence-led operations have led to the arrest of three additional suspects connected to a string of street robberies in Asokore Mampong, KNUST, Kenyasi, Bosore, Duase, Antoa, Mayanka, Ayeduase, and nearby areas.
The suspects are Abdul Fatawu, alias “UN,” 22; Philip Nyarko, alias “Kawawa,” 24; and Samak Hadi, alias “Toronto,” 21.
Police found a large cache of stolen items at their hideouts in Aboabo, including 59 iPhones, six Android phones, four tablets, and five laptops. All three suspects reportedly confessed to the offences in their caution statements and remain in police custody as investigations continue.
The command is asking anyone who may have fallen victim to these thefts in the affected areas to report to the Ashanti Regional Police Command to aid investigations. DCOP Akoto reaffirmed the police’s commitment to peace, law, and order in the region and urged the public to provide timely, credible information to help combat crime.
