In the world of basketball, 2025 was a challenging year for WNBA star Caitlin Clark. Her journey back from a series of injuries is a testament to her determination and resilience. "It was a year of recurring injuries, and you know how that goes," Clark began, reflecting on her 2025 season. The injuries, including groin and quad issues, were so severe that she had to essentially relearn one of the most basic skills in basketball - running.
"When you're dealing with groin and quad injuries, you can't run for a while. It's like learning to run again in a whole new way," she explained. And this is where it gets controversial... Clark's journey highlights the fine line between pushing through injuries and giving the body time to heal.
The injuries started in May, forcing her to miss the Fever's preseason game. Just as she returned, an injury to her left quad kept her out for five more games. A groin injury then sidelined her again, and a subsequent injury in the last minute of a game against the Phoenix Suns ended her sophomore season prematurely.
But here's the part most people miss: Clark's determination never wavered. Even as she faced setback after setback, she remained focused on her goals. In August, while rehabbing her groin injury, she suffered mild bone bruising, but she persevered.
It was a long road to recovery, and the Indiana Fever finally announced in September that they were shutting down her season to prevent further aggravation of her persistent groin issue. But Clark's spirit remained unbroken.
And this is where the story takes an uplifting turn. In early December, Clark received a call-up to the Team USA camp, a moment she described as a delight.
"Getting thrown back out there with the best players in the world, that's how I wanted it," she said about the three-day training camp at Duke University. It was her first time in the senior camp, and it marked her return to full basketball activities in a competitive environment.
Clark's goals are ambitious: she aims to be on the Olympic team for Los Angeles in 2028 and the FIBA Women's World Cup in Germany in 2026. "My goal is to be on that Olympic team in 2028. It feels far, but it's probably closer than it sounds," she shared.
As we look forward to the upcoming basketball season, Clark's story serves as a reminder of the power of resilience and the importance of a fighter's spirit. Will she make it to the World Cup in Germany next summer? And what about her Olympic dreams? We can't wait to see what the future holds for this determined athlete.
