Dr. Alicia Arnott is a distinguished genomic epidemiologist, bringing more than 15 years of expertise across both developed and developing nations. She has earned a PhD in Virology and a Master's degree in Applied Epidemiology. Currently serving as the Deputy Head of Epidemiology at VIDRL, her primary focus is on integrating pathogen genomics to enhance public health strategies concerning various viral pathogens, such as Mpox, measles, SARS-CoV-2, and Hepatitis A and E viruses. She is an active participant in both national and international public health initiatives, showcasing the real-world implications of her research on global health outcomes. In addition, Alicia plays a crucial role in academia by coordinating the Infectious Diseases Epidemiology subject at the University of Melbourne.

Most notably, she was recently appointed as an expert member of a WHO Technical Working Group that contributed to the creation of the document detailing analytical considerations for genomic surveillance of the Mpox virus, which will aid countries in establishing and strengthening their genomic surveillance practices. Additionally, she serves as a designated focal point for the WHO's Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN) and is affiliated with the Global Virus Network (GVN).
