Five individuals have been charged in connection with the shooting of an Indiana judge and his wife, including a man who was set to stand trial in the very court where the judge presided. The incident, which occurred at the judge's home in Lafayette, is alleged to be an attempt to murder the judge, motivated by a desire to delay the trial. The suspect, Thomas Moss, was facing charges that included unlawful possession of a firearm by a violent felon, shooting into a building, and domestic battery with a deadly weapon. The shooting took place just two days before Moss's trial was scheduled to begin, and the judge had recently denied Moss's request to postpone it further. Moss, along with Raylen Ferguson and Blake Smith, are accused of taking matters into their own hands in a 'concerted effort to impede the proceedings of Moss's jury trial'. Surveillance footage from the Meyers' home captured a man in a face mask knocking on their door, claiming to be looking for his dog. The man fired multiple shots through the closed front door while the couple was inside. Ferguson, the alleged shooter, was identified by investigators, and the firearm used in the shooting was traced back to Smith. Zenada Greer and Amanda Milsap, two additional suspects, are accused of aiding Ferguson's travel to Lafayette and attempting to bribe the alleged victim in Moss's case, respectively. The case has been referred to a special judge, and Moss's trial has been postponed, with a hearing scheduled to reschedule it. The legal proceedings are ongoing, and the judge has emphasized the importance of allowing the judicial process to move forward without public commentary.
