Swaim Hutson Takes Rag & Bone Men’s Designer Reins: What’s Next for NY Denim (2026)

A New Chapter for Rag & Bone: Swaim Hutson Steps In

The fashion world is abuzz with a fresh start for Rag & Bone's menswear line!

After a two-year stint, Robert Geller has bid farewell to his role as the head designer for Rag & Bone's menswear collection. But here's where it gets intriguing: the brand has found its new creative force in Swaim Hutson, a name that's sure to leave a mark.

Hutson, a cofounder of the renowned Obedient Sons, brings a wealth of experience to the table. His journey includes stints at 3.1 Phillip Lim, Club Monaco, and Generra, and he's also the founder of The Academy New York, a brand that's become a favorite among fashion, art, and music enthusiasts.

In an exclusive interview, Hutson revealed that he's been consulting for various brands since shuttering The Academy in 2022. But it was a call from Andrew Rosen, the executive chairman of Rag & Bone, that sealed the deal. "It was a no-brainer," Hutson said, highlighting the brand's iconic status and its unique blend of DNA and denim-centric sportswear.

Hutson's vision for Rag & Bone is one of "authenticity and innovation." He aims to create menswear that feels timeless yet contemporary, capturing the soul of New York while resonating globally. And he's not holding back; tailoring is a big focus for him, with a shift towards suit separates over nested suits. "Guys today are mixing and mashing," he explained, referencing the trend of pairing sport coats with denim or trucker jackets with blazers.

Hutson's expertise in fit and fabrics will also come into play, offering classic pieces with a modern twist. He even hinted at some exciting denim programs launching in 2026, including a return to the raw denim aesthetic with RB Raw.

While Robert Geller's time at Rag & Bone saw him update the fit and silhouette of the collection and merge the ready-to-wear and sportswear lines, the brand is now looking ahead with enthusiasm. Andrew Rosen praised Hutson's innovation and craftsmanship, while Kyle Sweeney, senior vice president of men's merchandising and design, highlighted Hutson's clarity of vision and how it aligns with the brand's long-term strategy.

The transition of power at Rag & Bone is just one chapter in the brand's evolution. Founded in 2002 by Marcus Wainwright and David Neville, the brand has seen its fair share of changes. From its humble beginnings with no design training to its expansion into sportswear and the recent sale to Guess Inc. and WHP Global, Rag & Bone continues to shape the future of menswear.

So, what do you think? Is Swaim Hutson the right fit for Rag & Bone's next chapter? Share your thoughts in the comments; we'd love to hear your take on this exciting development in the fashion industry!
