Uvalde Shooting: Gunman Fired 117 Shots in 2 Minutes Before Officer Entered (2026)

The Uvalde school shooting remains a heartbreaking tragedy, and the details surrounding the event continue to be scrutinized. On January 16, 2026, the world learned more about the horrific events that unfolded at Robb Elementary School. A Texas Ranger testified that the gunman, Salvador Ramos, unleashed a barrage of 117 shots in just two minutes before Officer Adrian Gonzales entered the school.

Nineteen innocent students and two teachers lost their lives that day.

Ranger Nick Hill provided a timeline, revealing that Officer Gonzales had a window of just one minute and four seconds after parking his car before Ramos entered the school. Gonzales took three minutes and 53 seconds to enter the school after parking.

The timeline shows that Ramos entered the school at 11:32:59 a.m. and, after firing 21 shots in the hallway, entered a classroom at 11:33:45 a.m. Officer Gonzales entered the school at 11:35:48 a.m.

In total, Ramos fired 173 shots, while law enforcement fired 25 rounds.

Prosecutors allege that Officer Gonzales, who is charged with child endangerment, endangered the lives of the 19 students who died and an additional 10 surviving students. They claim he failed to act appropriately upon arrival and retreated after other officers were hit by gunfire.

But here's where it gets controversial...

Gonzales has pleaded not guilty, and his defense argues he is being unfairly blamed for a broader failure of law enforcement. They contend that Gonzales did everything he could, including calling in the shooting and attempting to enter the school.

Former Uvalde Police Sgt. Daniel Coronado testified that Gonzales was concerned for the safety of other officers, warning them about the shooter's location.

And this is the part most people miss...

The defense suggests that other officers arrived at the scene around the same time and had opportunities to neutralize the gunman. This raises the question of responsibility and the actions of all officers present.

What are your thoughts? Do you believe Officer Gonzales is being unfairly blamed, or do you think he bears responsibility for the tragic outcome? Share your perspective in the comments.
